Kingdom of Astunia
Astunia is one of the largest kingdoms on the continent of Aldion. Is primarily has a mixed temperate, Mediterranean and semi-arid climate. It has a very long coastline with pristine white beaches and lush, hilly plains right behind that. Although there is plenty of plains and valleys to be found more inland as well, the country has a multitude of mountain ranges, some of which may even see some snow in colder winters. The reining De Moreno family has been on the throne for many decennia, since back when the kingdom was formed in the early 15th century. Nonetheless it has seen plenty of conflict and war, however has managed to stand it and even expand through the ages.
The Kingdom of Astunia was the first to discover and settle the continent of Sinisterra to the West. For a long time it was amongst the strongest powers on the continent and gained significant wealth from the continent’s resources and trade. In 1798 however the colonies declared their independence and a long war ensued. Although a ceasefire was agreed upon in 1805, negotiations that lasted 9 months didn’t lead to an agreement and the war continued. In 1809 a majority of the Astunian troops surrendered and returned to their home country. The Republic of Estrelonia was informally born however it took until 1811 until its independence was officially admitted and recognized by the Kingdom of Astunia.
Despite the loss of its colonies the Kingdom of Astunia has been able to maintain its position of power and wealth in Aldion. Wealth previously obtained from the Western colonies and additional wealth still being generated in Eastern colonies have really boosted its development and industrialization.
