The Aurora Court

-Floating about four miles into the sky is the home of the Peris- the Court of the Aurora, the Matutinal Court, the Apical Court (or Court of the Apex).
-Located on a collection of floating landmasses which range from 6,000 to 7,000 meters high in the sky. The islands have massive shells/bases made of aerocore, which are initially somewhat bowl-shaped. The lower halves of the bowls are full of rock layers of igneous and metamorphic rock, while the upper halves are full of sedimentary rock. The outsides of the shells are also encased in rocks of similar types. Topsoil is formed by roots and animals breaking ground, and is mostly kept in place by ridges of aerocore and more thick roots. Over thousands of years, some will inevitably spill over the edges and fall back to the ground below, depleting the islands’ supply of soil. To counteract this, I’m going to make tiny, random nexii more common within the Aurora Court, specifically ones a few inches above the ‘ground’ which connect to soil layers elsewhere in the world, which will dump fresh soil onto the islands for a few minutes before closing.
-The Aerocore bedrock projects a field in which air pressure and temperature are kept roughly equal to that of the highest surface elevation below each given chunk of aerocore (so islands floating above a jungle will be hot with sea level air pressure, while ones above a mountain will be a bit cooler and with lower air pressure). This field also disperses some wind around it, so that the sky islands aren’t regularly swept blank and raw by high atmosphere wind speeds. Meanwhile, Marispar interspersed with the rock and soils provides the environment with a consistent source of pure water, and also has the side effect of keeping the air immediately around the islands fairly dry compared to the humid tropics below.
-The permanent/central nexus of this Court spans multiple islands, the largest of which is about one acre in top surface area. This isle also contains the actual central portal/wormhole. Within the nexus, the sky is perpetually dark, faded blue, like the pre-sunrise hours when the sky is within the earth’s shadow. Splotches of eternally half-thawed snow occupy the darker nooks and crannies, and plants are eternally just beginning to bud new leaves. It is in a state of eternal early morning, and a state of eternal early spring/late winter, with a gibbous moon hovering low in the west.
-The people of this Court are the Peris , human-like fay with two sets of large feathered wings in colors like fire, with eyes of pure gold and a crest of feathers on each temple. With their magic, they can make their wings grow large enough to soar, or shrink when they land so that their feathers don't drag along the ground.
