Fluxpora
The Town of the Tower
History
Originally Fluxpora was a fishing village founded at some unknown point whilst the Gafarrian Empire was still in place, the village would remain with a small population of 500 until the Empire collapsed. The vast influx of refugees would bolster the town's population to 4,000 by 30 AG, by the current year 209 AG the town's population resides at 6,000 people. For as long as the people can remember House Fluxpora have ruled over the town (hence its name), the House has a strong magical bloodline as Lord after Lord has been born with an aptitude for water magic. This remains true today as Lord Fredrico Fluxpora V is a highly skilled mage; it is this strong line of mages which has enabled Fluxpora to act independently for most it’s history, although the Lords prefer not to use their magic in combat in times of desperation it has radically altered the course of history in Fluxpora’s favour. Initially Fluxpora would attempt to fend off outside influence alone but they would soon realise that their Lords’ magic alone could not resist the might of Bocamar or Aldarr. In 97 AG alongside other towns/cities including the likes of Vellar and Lesaboca, Fluxpora would enter the ‘League of Free Cities’ designed to collectively resist the might of Bocamar and Aldarr whilst ensuring the cities independence and autonomy. The League would prove to be successful and would collectively hold off Bocamar’s and Aldarrs advances until 174 AG when Tiago II "Aravil o Ja Miran" of Aldarr launched The War of 74 and the battle of the Bloody Fields. Many of the League Leaders were caught off Guard by this move including Lord Alista Fluxpora (Fredrico V’s father) who near Andoma at the time fending off Bocamar skirmishers. Because of this only a small dispatch of Fluxporan troops were sent to support the league against Tiago whilst Alista could not make it to Lesboca to partake in the fighting. This was a crippling blow to the league as Alistars immense magical abilities may have swayed the tide of battle against Tiago leading to a victory for the league. It is rumoured that Tiago II was informed of Alista’s absence which is why he launched the campaign when he did. Following the Paloampo agreement House Fluxpora was allowed to keep control of the town in exchange for vassalage, Tiago did not wish to treat Fluxpora too harshly in order to not anger the mage and he knew Alistar would be a better ally than enemy. Alistar would die 20 years later in 194 AG and the current Lord Fredrico would take control. Both of the mages remained loyal to Tiago as they knew Fluxpora alone could do nothing against the might of Aldarr. The death of Tiago II in 203 AG would (like in many other places) cause a major shift within Fluxpora, the crippling weakness of Aldarr in its succession crisis enabled Fluxpora to once again re-assert its independence. Fredrico would maintain great relations with King Max De Julio IV of Lesaboca and together they would begin to set the framework for the leagues reconstruction, however in 205 AG Max IV was exiled and Fredrico was not a supporter of the new Queen Belesa as he believed her ousting of her father was unjustified and an act of Tyranny. Therefore Fluxpora pulled out of any negotiation for a renewal of the league until Queen Belesa has proved herself a worthy Queen and a friend of Fluxpora or until she is removed from power. For now Fluxpora sticks with its sister town of Vellar as Fluxporas future remains unknown.Current Politics
Lord Fredrico Fluxpora V is the unchallenged ruler of the town, his power in magic paired with his families long lasting legacy of rulers makes his position unquestionable. Fredrico is a smart, calculating man with the best interests of Fluxpora as his key objective. Fredrico and Fluxpora do suffer from one issue, the town is relatively poor whilst any local nobles do not possess vast wealth. Fluxpora’s geographical position is the main cause of this as much of the trade upon the river Arr bypasses Fluxpora as it lies upstream on one of the river's tributaries, therefore most of the city's trade comes from land routes despite its connection to the river. Fredrico does not support the formation of a new league because of Queen Belesa however if the economic situation gets worse he may have no other choice to enter the League to secure exports from Lesaboca and Paloampo. House Rameira is the other major house involved in Fluxpora’s politics, it is highly supportive of Fredrico and Lord Rodri Rameria organises the towns finances and also plays a key role in organising Fluxpora’s militia.Economy
The current economy of Fluxpora is very weak, most people work just to be fed. The jobs in the town are scarce as most people work on the fields or in the Fishing industry. The main export of the town is grain and fish which it sends to Vellar in return for natural resources like coal and iron. Fluxpora does possess a large sheep population, which in turn provides a source of meat and wool for the town. Many people work in the weaving industry and turn the wool into clothes; due to the lack of a large dock and poor investment the export of the clothing is limited to surrounding towns, should the funding become available an investment into a harbour the economy would undeniably improve as the clothes produces could access a much larger market.Military Capacity
Historically Fluxpora has never had a massive military capacity as it largely relied upon the magic of their lord or protection from Vellar or Lesaboca. Acknowledging the rising tensions across the region Fredrico has put aside what funds he has available to bolster the force. Currently Fluxpora has 100 standing soldiers and a peasant levy of 400. Although this is a small amount they also have 3 war mages all from House Fluxpora, these mages are Fredrico himself, his sister Francesca and his son Felix; all of them possess magical abilities which could decide the course of battle.Places
