Aldarr

Aldarr's early history is shrouded in mystery, for a long time after it's foundation it was a small fishing village like so many settlements in the region. It's growth was slow and mainly driven by local trade with neighbouring villages on and off the island. When Miranagita I's efforts to unite the region bore fruit, transregional trade flourished for the first time and Aldarr being centrally located on the confluence of both arms of the Arr river massively benefitted from this, the fishing village started to grow into a small town, but it wasnt until the fall of the very empire which started the rise of Aldarr that it would become the metropolis it is today. The real rise of Aldarr began with the arrival of Timago I, first king and founder of the Timagadorian Dynasty. Timago was a Contararr that overthrew the mayor and city council that had hired him to hunt pirates and restore order and turned the city into a base for his fleet to extort tariffs for anyone trying to travel up and down the Arr river. Lacking any good alternatives traders and others alike were forced to pay and made Timago I one of the richest rulers of his time. What nobody expected from a former pirate was that instead of living large on the money earned, Timago I would invest it into making Aldarr the premier emporium of the region. Large cash incentives were granted for traders and craftsmen alike to move to the city. Both of Aldarr's harbours were dug out, enlarged and fortified. The fleet and standing army enlarged to hunt and discourage pirates wherever possible. Soon neighbouring towns requested Aldarr's protection against banditry and other ambitious lords in the region. This later became known as Aldarr's first golden age. By the time Timago I died, he had left Aldarr firmly in support of the newly minted monarchy and enlarged from its original size manyfold. The army and navy were by far the strongest in the region and new trade organizations were setting up shop in town every week.                     Aldarr was but a small village in the times before the Garfarrian empire and wouldn't grow into anything bigger until it. Though Aldarr would see some growth during the empires times, it was no more than a medium sized city and regional center by the time it fell. Aldarr would experience it's first golden age under the Timagadorian Dynasty founded by legendary Timago I himself.
