Reynja (RAIN.yuh)

Reynja, known to the Wylden as the 'Lifemother', is the Súðár goddess of life, and along with her twin sister Júgrín, is considered foremost among the Súðárín gods.

Divine Domains

Reynja is the creator of nearly all life in the world of Gæðí (some exceptions include the Dire Ravens, created by the Noste Væð; or the Earth Trolls, created by the Noste Gáðæn ), and views all naturally living things as her children.

Artifacts

Wylden legends tell of a crystal spear named Fáðennór (FOW.theh.nor) that Gáðæn Worldfather crafted for the Lifemother during the Godswar, when they both walked the world in physical flesh (at that time, among the mortal Wylden, Reynja's mortal avatar was known by the alias 'Ænna'). Fáðennór was said to be able to purify the corruption of life represented by Fájunn and Fájunnborn at a touch, reducing the foul creatures to crumbled piles of peat.

Holidays

Among the Wylden, the first day of the new year, which coincides with the Spring Equinox, is sacred to the Lifemother, and is celebrated as the festival day Reynjastág ('Reynja's Day' in Tallað).

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Reynja's highest motivation, like all the other gods of creation, is to experience their creation. In her particular case, she is most delighted by watching the living things of Gæðí grow, change, and adapt.

Likes & Dislikes

She is understanding of natural processes such as predator-prey relationships; however, she abhors the torture or corruption of life and detests any who would seek to do so.

Representation & Legacy

Though Reynja often walked the physical world in the ancient days before The Godswar, she is most remembered in that capacity as the wild and fierce huntress called Ænna the Wrathful, who aided the mortal Wylden and fought alongside Gáðæn Worldfather in that ancient conflict. She has not tread the mortal realm since that time, in observance of The Balance.

Social

Family Ties

Twin sister to Júgrín, known as the 'Thoughtcrafter', and mother to Vhæja and Ærðandí.

Mannerisms

The Lifemother is warm and kind to those who respect and appreciate life in all its myriad forms. With those who do not, she would be more distant, if she acknowledged or communicated with them at all. Those who torture or corrupt life inspire her to wrath, which if not for the constraints of The Balance, would likely have fatal consequences.

How fitting that a bringer of life would be angered by the corruption of it. Nice work!

I’d like to see some of the wrath. ;)

I'm in the midst of writing my first novel set in this world, following the famous Wylden character Sæga Hrafnárí, so Reynja/Ænna are mentioned in it; but I have many more stories I intend to tell, so perhaps the Lifemother will feature even more, later :) Thank you for your interest!
