Ursa

Ursa remins silent and still in moonlit glades, waiting days at the hunting ground of a known vampire. Her hair is a deep green with streaks of pale silver, long and loose beneath a hood of deep auburn; her eyes cut through twilight where most see gnarled trees and shifting branches. At her hip, a slender crossbow rests, carved with runes for the vampire-blood that she hunts. Beside her strides her husband, Kodiak, tracker and bondsman, though the two rarely speak amid the hush of pursuit.   Ursa was forged in the forests of the Tanglewood, her family’s tradition entwined with the ebb and flow of life, death, and renewal. But when the first vampiric scourge took her sister, Ursa turned her foremost skill toward the darkness. She learned set-traps beneath spider-web moonlight, harvested vigil-herbs in the deepest thickets, and trained her aim until the claw of a vampire tree-walker meant nothing but dust.   In battle she is quiet but unyielding: the moment the vampire’s mask slips, the runes flare, the bolt cracks its path—and the predator becomes prey. When the hunt ends, she returns to woods untouched by glamour, where crickets scratch the ground and moss holds no memory of the fight. By daylight she is healer, by night she is reaper. To the forest she remains protector, to the dead she is final grace.
