The Sun in Splendour

The Sun in Splendour is the Morayan God of the sun, sky, storms and omens. He does not represent the sun itself, as that is the Fundamental Divinity PI, but rather embodies its warmth, its light and its power both to give and to take life, alongside the other forces of the sky above. The Sun in Splendour was first adopted as the patron god of the Ossien tribe after the fall of Mallasa, becoming the local god of Southy after the unification of Moray. Since the removal of the sacred grove of The Antlered King and the Crown Heart to the Northern Wylds, has come to be seen as the patron of the southern duchies (Southy, and Oester, and to a lesser degree the Queen's Country.)   The Sun in Splendour is depicted as a figure in robes of incandescing gold, his face too lumonous to have features, and surrounded by a halo of brilliant light. In art, this is usually represented as three primary rays at 45, 90 and 135 degrees from a horizon drawn across their shoulders, with three smaller rays in each quarter. Such depictions are often incredibly lavish, inlaid with precious metals and decorated with gems.

Cult of the Sun in Splendour

The clerists of the Bright Twin are among the most visible servants of the Seven. They wear white robes and are equipped by their training with a battery of aphorisms, proverbs and sermons for all occasions. As servants of a god of such visible things, their creed demands that they too are visible, and they are often accused of excess and oppulence.
  • Temple: Order of the Shining Canopy - The greatest preaching order in the Queendom, the priests of the Sun-in-Splendour are often seen as the public face of the Church. They wield significant political influence, not least as the most active and visible source of prophecies and interpreters of omens. Gifter young seers are sought out by the order for training and indoctrination.
  • Cloistered: Order of the Irridescent Screen - The cloistered servants of the Sun-in-Splendour are archivists and scholars, specialising in the fields of prophetic texts and meteorology. They have a creed of preparedness which manifests in their famously well-stocked larders and coffers. The best of them use this wealth to feed and clothe the poor, and to prepare against future crises, but there are certainly those cloisters who, regardless of the demands of hospitality, live down to the popular view of the order as horders and gourmands.
  • Mendicant: Order of the Pale Mantle - An aescetic order practicing extreme poverty. They encourage others to eschew possessions, and in particular the wealthy to invest in charity and civil disaster planning. They have a long-running and very public feud with the cloisters of the Irridescent Screen, which often takes the form of navigating large groups of the poor and homeless through the necessary forms to access the Screen's hospitality.
  • Martial:
    • Order of the White Stole - A hospitaller order dedicated to training and protecting battlefield healers. They also run charitable hospitals in poor areas of cities, often in concert with clerists of the Pale Mantle.
    • Order of the Black Helm - An obscure, semi-cloistered order of former killers. Each community of the Black Helm is formed and trained in preparation for a single, prophecied battle. At the manifestation of pre-ordained signs, the community give away their property and holdings and go out to fight, expecting never to return.
    • Order of the Silver Panoply - An errant order whose members bring protection and healing to areas too remote to receive it from the state. Paladins of the Silver Panoply work alone or in pairs, never training more than one initiate at a time. They are marked by a silver pauldron, and their numbers are limited by the availability of these items, most of which are ancient and tarnished, but still worn with pride. There is a very exacting process for forging and consecrating a new pauldron, and it is rarely done.
