Harbrath

Harbrath is the kingdom to the south of Moray. Like its neighbour, Harbrath is built on an inherited pact, in the form of a ritual marriage performed at the coronation of a new monarch. Instead of the monarch being married at their own coronation, however, the sacred wedding is performed for their heir apparent.   Harbrath's is a double pact, the kingdom's sovereignty held by two goddesses: The Lady of Green Places, a goddess of the River Har, and the Dweller in Red Sands, a desert deity from the south. The consort of the Lady is called the Green Sovereign and the consort of the Dweller is the Red Sovereign. At the coronation of a Green Sovereign as Monarch of Harbrath, their heir becomes the new Red Sovereign, and vice versa, so that Harbrath always has one monarch and two sovereigns.   After the coronation, the Green Sovereign rules northern Harbrath from the city of Northcourt, while the Red Sovereign rules the arid south from Southcourt. Some Red Sovereigns have tried to abandon the south for the more inviting north after their coronation, but neither god seems to approve of such a break of tradition. Over time, the south has also become more appealing, as its industrial base has grown to rival the economic importance of the agricultural north.   The two sovereignties share the use and control of the commercial centre of Harmouth, and the Monarch always has primacy over the junior Sovereign.
