Soulless

Appearance

As a Soulless comes into the world fully formed, it will have clothing, accessories, body modifications, tools, and other such things on its person as suits it, and its wholly contrived backstory will be burned into its mind as one's own past would be.

Racial Abilities

The Soulless are peerless liars, universally capable of telling a lie exceptionally well, and with a champion poker face. Beyond this, they gain no abilities above that of their base species, with the exception that their actions are almost always part of some greater plan, whether they themselves are orchestrating it, or whatever created them. See Cold Resistance. Soulless unlike other Blooded do not corrupt the world around them.

History

History is replete with tales of nations brought low by properly placed Soulless infiltrators, some who were unwitting accomplices, doing only what they thought best until the very end, while others were willing participants, knowingly collaborating with Daemons and the Cult of the Kindred. Some are even rumored to go from place to place, spreading their malice and chaos wherever they tread. This trend throughout history has made it so that calling someone a Soulless is an extreme insult almost anywhere you go, as they are pariah to all cultures. There are very few words which can garner the death penalty in Gravicus, but the false accusation of being one of the Soulless, made in all seriousness, is one of them.

Culture and cultural heritage

The Soulless always appear to be of the culture or group which they are meant to infiltrate, or perhaps that of a nearby culture if that is what their background might imply. The only really sure thing about the Soulless is that they are all exceptionally good liars who love scheming, and gathering power for its own sake. Soulless speak the language of their home and Common.

Religion

All major religions recommend slaying the Soulless as soon as one is discovered. There is nothing redeeming about a Soulless, the longer they are let live, the more they will corrupt and destroy.

Family

The Soulless may have stories of estranged family, or family so far away that they cannot be reached, but they will never have memories of a family that they will ever have reasons to contact. The main reason is that this family does not exist at all, and this should be the first signal that a person may not be what they say they are.

Common Myths and Legends

Creation Story

The most subtle kind of Blooded, and the kind that cannot be counted, are the Soulless, Blooded that are only created through a demonic magic ritual, performed on the material plane. The demons who make the Soulless are unknown, as even the Soulless do not know how they came to be. Each Soulless comes into the world fully crafted, an adult with a memory full of absolute lies, and they all appear, outwardly, to be perfectly normal, if unusually charismatic, members of their own species. The primary difference is that the Soulless are completely sociopathic, unable to form real bonds with anyone, and they almost all have an intense lust for power. Generally, a Soulless is only discovered to be such after they’ve generated enough trouble and turmoil to be killed, and it is theorized that some of the more abhorrent rulers of the past have been undiscovered Soulless, though this is mere conjecture. What is not conjecture, however, is that the internal organs of a Soulless are sometimes arranged in a bizarre fashion or have extra organs, usually unique to whatever sick cabal created them, meaning that a full autopsy is the only sure way to tell a Soulless apart from their regular species.

The Soulless are not known to control any settlements on the face of Gaia at this time. If you find out this isn't true, you should probably change that.
