Transfer Runes
Transfer Runes are a kind of Magic Rune and are constructed the same way- they are carved into a dense material, traditionally stone using a scratching awl. The deeper and more time spent generally will equate too a stronger spell wth more magic output, the more intricate the seals and insigias used the more likely the spell will execute with the intended effect. Where transfer runes differ to a standard rune is that they don't need a caster to activate them. A transfer rune is engraved with a sigil that fills up over time. It is carried by a sorcerer over a long period of time during which the sorcerers magic is syphoned off to 'fill up' the rune with magic. This can be done in consistently in automatic small amounts or deliberately poured in, but it needs to be done within the Sorcerers capabilit otherwise they can experience Mana Sickness.
Pre-filling them with magic does a number of things; it makes the overall spell less intensive to cast as a large amount of magic isn't required all at once which lessens the chance for Mana Recoil as the spell is more stable. It can also be 'overfilled' when this happens the spell has too much energy that is struggling to be contained by the sigil of the rune, they become extremely volatile and may activate if the rune is damaged of if a magic-user comes into its vicinity. This practice is considered extremely dangerous as there is little control as to when the spell with activate. It is mostly used for traps And has been used by sorcerers as a means to destroy evidence of magic in their studies to avoid persecution or destroy their notes. It has more recently been used in technologies and makes up part of the pistons for the royal trains, commercially in more magic-accepting areas transfer runes have begun to circulate which create fire when thrown at the ground, this is taking the place of flint and other fire starters.
