Musturtle
Shell Spice Florabeast
The life cycle of a tame Florabeast is closely tied to its planter. They tend to live a little longer than the animal they derive from, and many can survive into the evening of a human's life span if they are planted in childhood, as is customary. In the case of the Musturtle, the lifespan of their animal far exceeds that of any human since Methuselah.
Wild Musturtles have been observed that are believed to be hundreds of years old, producing viable seeds only rarely, and these growing very slowly to compensate. They can also reach enormous size, easily contesting the Pityvern or Garliphant.
When tamed through planting, their lifespan is somewhat normalized to that of their human, but it is still common to find specimens that have been passed down for several generations, the beast choosing a new bond from their late planter's descendents.
Musturtles are known for the bushy growths that cover their tough shells, sporting flowers in colors ranging from white, yellow, to brown. They exude a potent oil from these flowers that will keep away nearly any predatory animal or rambunctious Florabeast, and which can be collected by their planter for later use. They are just as slow and durable as turtles in the wild. Most are capable swimmers, though they can only root on land.
