Medlark

Spoiled Feather Florabeast

Resembling a round fruit with leafy wings and scale-like bark on its head and legs, the Medlark is a powerful flyer well-suited to carrying messages and even small parcels. It is much hardier than the other bird-like Florabeasts commonly used for transportation, and the only reason it has not supplanted them is because of its seasonal condition.

Most Florabeasts follow a seasonal pattern resembling a perennial plant: they thrive in the spring and summer, then slow down in the autumn and work less in the winter, saving up strength for the next year. In a manner thought to borrowed from its derivative plant, the Medlark displays unparalleled vigor during the winter months, and practically goes into hibernation whenever it is warm. This trait is a hindrance in temperate or tropical climates, but in the colder northern regions of every continent, it remains a steadfast addition to any homestead.

Name Explanation
Most of the name of the animal is contained in the name of the plant. Its reverse seasonal affective disorder is inspired by the fruits needing to blet during colder months before being usable.
