Manaborn
Native to the to Arcane Mountains are the Manaborn, sentient floating stones with arcane sigiling covering them. Due to their inherent immortality, and lack of biological necessities, the Manaborn tend to ignore most of everything that is not their eternal game.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Manaborn are more golem than living being. They are formed of dozens of large, carved stones of differing sizes and shapes, though most often squares. These cubes fold in and out from each other in a way that is often distressing to most races.
The Stones are carved with arcane sigils on each face, and these carvings glow a vibrant blue, similar to the colour given off by activated Eversand.
Genetics and Reproduction
Manaborn are created by the constant magic storms above the Arcane Mountains. When the lightning strikes the stone of the mountains in just the right way to carve channels into the stone, that then fill up with magic becoming Arcane Sigils, a Manaborn comes to life.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Manaborn passively consume the ambient mana in the air to survive, and do not need to, and cannot eat or drink.
Behaviour
Manaborn do not have mindsets even remotely similar to those of the Mortal Races, they are perfectly capable and happy to sit motionless for centuries. The Manaborn's most common past time is their Game. It doesn't have a name, but the Manaborn are created with the knowledge of it's rules and how to create the item needed to play.
Additional Information
Social Structure
The Manaborn live in a social hierarchy that is determined by their ability in their puzzle, with those that progress the furthest having more authority, though it is not often used.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The Manaborn live scattered around the Arcane Mountain, but there is a large, flattened mountain peak where they can gather whenever needed.
Average Intelligence
Manaborn are generally, intensely intelligent, but it's not an organic intelligence. The Manaborn act as a sort of computer, capable of some interaction, but mostly being completely engaged with the Game.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Manaborn perceive the world via a method of magic-based echolocation. Through the use of this echolocation, Manaborn can sense all things within a sphere centered on themselves. The size of this sphere depends mostly on the age and size of the Manaborn.
Civilization and Culture
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Due to their inherent immortality, and lack of biological necessities, the Manaborn tend to ignore most of everything that is not their eternal game.
The eternal game is, massively simplified, a 4D Jenga puzzle cube without consistant gravity. The Manaborn are obsessed with this game, which appears as a 50cm X 50cm cube of grey rock. They rock breaks into many smaller cubes, and the Manaborn manipulate the cubes using pure magic.
The Manaborn judge their place amongst their peers based on how far into the Game they get. Completing the first stage is to rearrange the entire surface of the cube, the second stage is all the cubes 1 layer in, which requires rearranging the surface. And so each layer requires exponentially more movements, and exponentially more focus, multitasking, and skill in mana manipulation.
The Manaborn are born with knowledge of this game, and while none of them care, they all believe that completing the game grants divinity.
Each face is made up of 12 cubes, the first layer of the Game has 72 movements, the second layer has 432 movements, the third has 2592 movements, etc, etc.
If a single move is made out of order, then the cube falls apart.
There are 144 levels.
Sometimes Manaborn collaborate to play the game, but only their personal achievements are shared.
