The Outer Planes

The Outer Planes provide the direction, thought, and purpose for the construction and design of the Inner and Material Planes.

Geography

The Outer Planes consist of 16 differing planes, divided into 2 sets of overlapping hemispheres: Positive & Negative (Upper & Lower) along with Chaos & Order (Dextral & Larboard). Mortals generally categorize these planes as corresponding to alignments of Good, Evil, Chaotic, Lawful and Neutral, positioning them on a 'wheel' in a order analogous to such alignments.

Localized Phenomena

Not all planes are entirely discernible and simply being exposed to such locations can easily break a mortal's mind. Luckily, the power of the psyche to force the incomprehensible into boxes that can at least be mildly understood has saved countless lives. The perceptible landscape of these locations is never constant. Rather, it can change faster than the blink of an eye entirely based upon the whims of the powers that 'reside' there, effectively erasing and rebuilding existence. Along with perceptibility, both time and distance are essentially meaningless in the Outer Planes, being neither constant, consistent, nor linear.

Fauna & Flora

These Outer Planes are best known as the homes of deities. Though rather than being the physical location where these deities reside, they are central locations that embody their profiles and domains.
