The Ignes Fatui

The Ignes Fatui is the collective name used to refer to the Pantheon of Fatiuous Artifice. This pantheon is comprised of Elder Deities, Prime Deities, Gods, Intermediate Deities, Lesser Deities, and Quasi-Deities.

Structure

It is an undisputed fact that Elder Deities were present at and contributed to the creation of the Universe. They have since voluntarily given up aspects of their powers to create the Prime Planes, and thus the deities that reign over them.

Prime Deities are the current rulers of each of the Prime Domains and every deity and god that reside within. It is believed that the ruling and most powerful prime deity is Mystra. However, as she is an enigmatic being, it is well known that her partner Oghma takes the active role leading the remainder of the prime deities.

Just below the prime deities and Prime Domains, gods and greater deities rule the Greater Domains. Gods have capabilities equivalent to that of greater deities, but though their power remains consistent, it is static and never able to grow. Greater deities have fluctuating power but have the potential to raise their domain up to the rank of a Prime Domain or, should their following lessen sufficiently, their power can drop to that of an intermediate deity. However, though their power may lessen, their Greater Domain will never fall to a Midst or Lesser Domain, nor will they lose their status as a greater deity. Both greater deities and gods will directly interact with deities that rule over the Midst and Lesser Domains that reside within their own when needed but generally prefer not to have dealings with any quasi-deities and rarely interact with those who rule the Prime Domains. However it is only greater deities who are commonly known to have domains that straddle the boundaries between multiple Prime Domains and thus fall under the ruling of multiple prime deities.

Intermediate Deities reign over the Midst Domains. They are often the go between for the gods and greater deities that their Midst Domain lies in and the lesser deities whose domains reside within their own. They are also thought to routinely utilize lesser deities and quasi-deities to interact with mortals on their behalf in the rare occasions that they do so.

It is common for Lesser Deities to to play close attention to their followers and regularly interact with them to avoid becoming adrift, where they fall into an unconscious and near-death state if they loose all of their worshipers. They may show themselves to mortals, grant miracles, respond to prayers, and even reside on the mortal planes. As such, besides quasi-deities, lesser deities are some of the only deific beings to ever hold any awareness of the state of mortal affairs, though it is still ubiquitous for them to remain indifferent.

Quasi-Deities were mortals who have ascended to deity or godhood. They often have small, but close-nit followings and regularly interact with mortals regardless of whether or not those mortals worship them. Quasi-Deities typically show either great care or hatred for mortals and will commonly act upon those feelings. They are subject to all orders from all deities, regardless of who they report to.
