Void Space

Void space is a large asteroid field at the edge of the Boreal system, just past the ice giant planet Bolea. Its poximity to the outer edges of the system has lead to it being a perfect place for pirates, smugglers and the criminal agents in Boreal to make base's inside the asteroids. Many factions that contest controll over the belt have left long abandonded traps and trip lines, all undocumented and exact numbers unknown; any law enforcement factions that attempt to follow smugglers into the field have meant the wrong end of one of these traps, leading to the regions nickname of the Graveyard Belt.   The largest victim ship to the traps and the belt itself is the Crusader, a large Human cruiser that attempted to blast its way through the field, destroying and asteroids nearby before they could impact the ship, or detonate the traps. The mission into the belt was a failure, as the ship couldn't keep up sustained fire into the belt against both asteroids and pirate vessels attacking the cruiser. The Crusader remains in the belt, and due to its large size has become home to the largests and strongest pirate faction in the belt, the Eighth Star Raiders.   The smaller ships dotted throughout the belt have become almost camouflage for the pirate vessles inside the belt to slip in, switch off all power and drift until they know they are alone and not being followed back to their bases. This is not always a positive however, switching off all power and drifting has lead to some ships joining the graveyard permentantly as they drift into the traps laden in the belt, unable to correct course quickly enough.

The asteroids that make up the belt are rich with metals and resources, if anyone was actually able to mine them safely. The asteroids contain vast quantities of gold, silver, iron, titaninum, tungsten and copper.
