Boryl is an immensely old and large city located in western Drausk on the shores of the Bor river. Boryl is home to the Winter Palace, which is the primary home of the Imperial Family of Drausk. This city is practically a fortress and has survived countless attacks, which gave it the epithet "City of Sieges". Boryl is home to two of the {small number} bridges that cross the River Bor.   Boryl is the last city on the western continent with an active church of the Black Faith. The Nov Lucja Cathedral has been repurposed from a cathedral of the Black Faith to one of the Lucian Faith.   Boryl is known to have a very traditional and superstitious culture. Many citizens of Boryl put much stock in holy days and days of luck, and just as much in rituals to ward off bad luck. There is a persistant belief that the arrival of the Lucian Faith brought with it the spirits of plague from the west.

History

Boryl is the ancient and indominable heart of Drausk. It is a city of immense age, predating the formation of Imperial Drausk by nearly a 1000 years. Over the centuries of its existence, the city has grown from a graystoned castle with iron-crowned roofs toa vast, layered sprawl of courts, tenements, shrines and streets.   For centuries, the city of Boryl has survived siege after siege - from the sieges of the early Azoran nations, to infighting and rebellion, to attempted coups and wildfires, to even raids from the horse lords of Ur, the city of Boryl has been destroyed, rebuilt, and destroyed again.

This is largely due to the lack of surrounding defenses, as it rests on a vast steppe.

Points of interest

Boryl is supposedly the last major city on the western continent to have housed a fully operational cathedral of the Black Sect of the Lucian Faith - an extremist, radical sect centered on the idea that humanity is corrupted and disgusting. That St. Lucia left us and will only return once humanity succumbs to its sins and the world is left empty for a new era to begin.   Boryl's central cathedral - now called Nov Lucja - was once the grandest Black Faith temples in the north, but has since been rededicated to the Lucian Church under the current Drakon. Among the common folk, the Lucian Faith is seen as a necessary evil, a religion of foreign warmth brought in on cold winds. The superstitious culture of Boryl holds that the arrival of Lucian missionaries brought with them the spirits of plague and broke the ancestral wards that kept darker things at bay.
