The Moirai - The Fates
The Moirai, more commonly known as the Fates, are three Goddesses of Fate and Destiny.
The Fates do not interfere with mortal or even divine affairs and merely oversee the threads of fate of every being in existence, from mortals to the Gods themselves.
The Fates are commonly depicted spinning, measuring, and cutting a golden thread, representing the entire life of a person. They are said to oversee the birth and death of all life. Even the Gods fear the Fates. It’s said if you are shown the cutting of the thread your fate is sealed forevermore.
The Moirai are one of the Primordial deities, one of the first beings in existence. They are the embodiment of inescapable density. The three Fates are identified as a single entity, Atropus is the personification of endings, Clotho is the personification of beginnings and Lachesis is the personification of lifetime.
The Erinyes and the Keres are sometimes said to be agents of the Fates, sent to hunt down and drag to Hades those who attempt to escape their destiny.
Because the Moirai are so feared and they have a connection to death, they are usually only referred to by epithet, “the Fates” as to avoid invoking them or drawing their attention.
The Moirai are not worshipped, merely feared. Many have tried to beseech or invoke the fates, but to no avails as you can only accept the destiny set before you.
Apperance
The Moirai are exclusively depicted as three feminine figures, usually hooded and elderly, running a golden thread between their fingers. Clotho holds the spindle, Lachesis measures and Atropus holds the sheers.
