Shining a Light on Evo Rights

Summer 2021, Week 4

Thursday afternoon

History of NV Museum, Museum District

Sigfried Al'Daar

The day seemed like any other, the occasional tourist or history enthusiast visiting this place of knowledge. Most of the exhibits were moments and relics captured in history from the period where enhanced humans started to become more prevalent in society, with some of the local non-evo history, such as trade history and past wars held in the area, in a separate wing. It had been two days since Sig's discovery that he was potentially one among those ranks, and the thought nagged at the corner of his mind.   He carefully inspects the exhibits, taking note if they had been touched by some untoward rapscallions that lacked the decency to recall one of the most commonly repeated rules, one that he would remind people on a daily basis. Eventually, he would take note of which ones that... seemed to beckon his attention more than others. A single bow of the Algonquian tribe, an old spear of a Powhatan origin, and a few other odds and ends that called out to him in different languages. This is troubling. Perhaps I should investigate this ability of mine, and discover the potential of these specimens. But to remove them from the exhibits all at the same time could raise questions and suspicion.. He stands near the entrance of the museum, lost in thought with his platinum brow furrowed.

Eleanor Sinclaire

Elle approached the man, her new boss. She noticed him as he was seemingly absorbed by the artifacts. "Mr. Al'Daar? We have no more scheduled tours for today so I was hoping I could help start on our next exhibit. I know you've been planning something for the fall and I want to assist in any way I can!"   Eleanor had been hesitant to ask, but still seemed enthused. She didn't know much about the man besides the fact that he was a tad strict and highly educated. After all, he may not have owned the museum but he practically ran it by himself. Eleanor had spent a lot of time at the museum for school and now had an internship here. She was thankful for the position but she hoped to be entrusted with more. She knew these objects had history. Her powers may help her learn even more.

Noticing Elle's approach, he gives her a small, pleasant smile as he gives a slow, singular nod to acknowledge her presence. Today he wore a dark brown wool sweater vest, a long-sleeved white button-up shirt underneath, beige slacks that were accompanied with a thick leather belt, and comfortable, dark leather loafers.   "Ah, Miss Sinclaire." He greeted with a thick Austrian accent that, despite his time in the United States, would always be prevalent in his speech. "I was indeed thinking of what we should be doing for the Fall season, especially with current events being as they were." He puts one hand to his chin, rubbing it thoughtfully as he looks to the banners that lined the ceiling of the spacious entrance. "I think that, on one hand, we should expand upon our evolved human exhibits, seeing as we are the one true haven for all of the stigma that faces them. On the other, we could expand upon the Colonial era exhibits to match the theme of the coming seasons."   Bringing his eyes back to her, he asks quizzically, "What do you think?"

Eleanor Sinclaire

Eleanor looked much more relaxed attire-wise compared to him. She wore Docs, beige tights, and a dress that brought out the blue in her eyes. A different shade than her hair, of course, which was swinging in a pony tail.   "Well, what if we did a combination of both? We could cover the parallels between the colonists coming to New Victoria and establishing their rights and freedom, their trials, prejudices, and barriers in respects to the same topics today but in a modern, evolved human setting. After all, New Victoria is the start of freedom for Evos. Just like it was a starting ground for lots of people."

He smiles, and nods approvingly. "I like this idea, miss Sinclaire. Certainly a lengthy project, but I think that it is a wonderful idea."   Seeing that Eleanor seems very eager to help, he asks "Would you like to assist in setting up the exhibits? This will, of course, be limited to when tours are not scheduled, but I think we could use a newer brand of creativity and ingenuity while working on these exhibits."

Eleanor Sinclaire

"Very much so, sir! When should I start." She beamed, tours would be an easy work around, though she led most of them herself. Considering this was a work study program, it was good for experience.

"I think we should start with evaluating where we can make space for the displays, but the actual setup should wait for a week or so, depending on how quickly we are able to put them together."   I should be careful with how I approach the topic of replacing certain artifacts. Less suspicion upon my head would prove very helpful. He thinks as his gaze returns to the exhibits, some of them calling to him. The Algonquian bow, a pair of hatchets claimed to be of Norse origin, and an Egyptian khopesh acquired from another museum all called out to him in their native languages, their features tarnished with time.

They continue to converse about the topic for some time, discussing potential spins on exhibits, how they will handle the delicate balance between the current social movements, and the possibility of adding new technologies to incorporate into the exhibits like interactive touch screens.
