Honor in Words and Deeds
"A liar’s words are lighter than air, but their weight will drown a man."
Oaths in Everwealth are not hollow echoes, they are roots. Spoken promises cling to the soul, and those who break them often find more than social ruin awaiting them. In certain regions, especially among the Ursi and Minotaur, there are rites where a lie is believed to stain the spirit, turning the breath of the speaker cold, their reflection delayed, or their dreams haunted by echoing voices of those they’ve wronged. Wandering merchants wear tokens of fulfilled pacts on braided cords or etched metal rings, each a mark of trust kept, while soldiers of the old world once inked their pledges into their skin with runes that only fade when honored. Even among outlaws, promise-breaking is met with disdain. Bandits may steal, rebels may kill, but a traitor to their own word is left unguarded, unburied, and unnamed. Some folk speak of the Hollowfolk, twisted spirits of oath breakers whose names were stripped from the stars, forever wandering without warmth or voice. Whether myth or magick, the lesson is clear: in Everwealth, your word is your weight. Speak it with care, or be prepared to carry what it breaks.
