The Gray Comet Child
Several tales and myths are told around Campfires, Taverns, and in the Royal Courts of Arimar that talk about the Gray Comet Child and how he came to be. Many of these are in the form of songs, sonnets, and stories. For those in the know, these myths are tied to the appearance of a child who became Adam Graymane, the Grand Wizard of Aquisitions for the Library of Ibris.
These Myths, Tales, and Songs have varied greatly and speak of a child born under the influence of the Gray Comet, which the man himself, if it is Adam Graymane, cares not to clarify or confirm. He believes the Myth bolsters his influence, respect, and even fear to his benefit.
So what Exactly is the Myth?
In the Year 2768, an illegitimate half-Elven Child was born to Philana Emberwalker, the daughter of the Elven King. This child's Father, Grenwald Sagewood, is a warrior-scout for a visiting envoy on behalf of the Duke of Rymar.
For some time, Philana was able to keep the pregnancy secret from her father, Faelar Emberwalker, King of Rya Nalore, but soon he learned of the coming child and who the father was. King Faelar was unhappy, but allowed Granwald to visit his Daughter Philana and be present at the child birth.
Secretly, he held counsel with his advisors and prophets and despised the fact that his daughter gave birth to a child of tainted elven blood. King Faelar plotted to have Granwald and the child taken away and executed. But this plot failed when Ganwald slew the Elf Assassin and spirited away with his Half-Elven son.
Philana learned of this attempt by her father pleaded with him to no avail. He felt the child was a curse and a taint on his bloodline; he ordered Philana to marry an elvish lord by the name of Aiduin Omalynn and forget her love for Ganwald and the child, but on the eve of the marriage, she killed herself plummeting from one of the castle's towers into the rocks at the lake below.
Granwald and his newborn son fled elvish capture many times, seeking refuge from Dryads in the ancient grove near Elyneas. It was here that Granwald learned of his son's foretold power, as the babe could easily communicate with the dryads, yet not speak. The Dryads and Granwald protected the child for some time against the king's assassins seeking to kill the two of them. This is where another myth came into being about a Green Knight protecting the outcasts and innocents in the woods. This Green Knight made pacts with druids and ancient woodland spirits, leaving his son to the care of these spirits.
This is where the myth becomes more obscured, as there are several legends throughout the continent of Arimar of this green knight's appearance and association with druids and woodland spirits. Others of a young prodigy child with vast magical powers, communing with woodland spirits, halflings, and visiting the dinner tables of common folk.
The Halflings of the Hornwarden Clan have many songs and shanties that tell of a child of the comet coming under the care of their clan, growing to a young man, and protecting the clan from harm through his magical powers. Some of these legends tell of the comet child entering deep caves and ancient ruins in search of magical knowledge. They always reference the Child's Dress, loose cloths or robes of Gray.
The Myth takes on several variations depending on the culture within the continent of Arimar.
Summary
The ancient Prophets among the five tribes foretold the appearance of a comet in the Sky in the year 2678. These prophets foretell of the arrival of a touched soul, one who will be able to speak many languages and will unearth lost magical secrets, steal from kings to educate paupers. The legend speaks of a child being born from the love of a man and an elven woman who becomes talented at the arcane arts before many children could even read. His Eyes glow from light hazel to cobalt blue.
The Legend speaks of how he will bring magic to the common people, be both boon and bane to lords and kings, and uncover many of the lost magics of Evermyst and serve as their Guardian and Gatherer.
Historical Basis
The Myth does have some roots in truth, as there are many historical records of the Comet appearing in the sky in 2678 to 2679 and accounts of this Comet having magical effects on the world of Evermyst.
It is believed there are more historical accounts about the birth of the Gray Enchanter hidden deep within the Elven Libraries of Amenore or Castle Sh' Dorei, but that the Elven King does not want such an account to be acknowledged, let alone shared with the men of the five tribes.
Spread
The Tales and stories of the birth of the Grey Enchanter are told throughout the Continent of Arimar. It is well known among communities that have a population of Half Elves, as most Half Elves are not well received in the Elven Territories of Arimar and are better received among Human Communities.
The legend is well spread by the Nomadic Halflings of the Horn Warden, who claim they have given Harbor to the Gray Enchanter as a youth, and he has been declared a companion and protector of the Horn Warden Clan.

In Literature
Here is a Known Sonnet from an Unknown Bard:
Beneath a comet's blaze in midnight skies,
A child was born of starlight, flesh, and flame—
Half elven grace, half mortal blood that cries
For truth in lands where none dare speak his name.
The Elven King, with cold and ancient pride,
Beheld the babe and saw a curse, not kin.
"Let death erase this blight," he harshly cried,
But love defied the crown, and fled with him.
The human sire, with sword and sorrow sworn,
Did steal away through shadowed woods and snow.
The child grew wild, with magic in him born—
A spark the stars themselves had dared bestow.
Though cast aside, his fate the world shall bend:
The comet's mark begins, but does not end.
In secret groves where elder runes still gleam,
He learned the tongues that trees and spirits speak.
The winds bent low to whisper arcane dream,
And rivers taught him spells both strong and sleek.
No scroll nor tome could cage his growing might,
For comet-fire burned within his soul.
He walked through realms where stars forget the night,
And drank from wells where gods had lost control.
Then came the lords with hoarded magic deep,
Who kept their gifts from hands of humble kin.
He stole their light while they lay drunk in sleep,
And gave it where the need was found within.
A thief, a sage, a storm in mortal guise—
He breaks the chains that blind the pauper’s eyes.
Now grown to man, yet touched by comet's flame,
He dwells atop a mesa crowned with lore.
Its halls are carved with runes none else can name,
And secrets sleep in vaults beneath the floor.
The poor ascend with hope and trembling hands,
And leave with spells to heal, to build, to dream.
But kings approach with guards and harsh demands—
They fear his gifts, yet crave his mystic stream.
He speaks in riddles, never bows nor breaks,
His eyes like stars that saw the world begin.
He gives, but tests what every seeker takes,
And weighs the worth of soul, not crown or skin.
So ask yourself, beneath the comet’s span:
Is he but man—or magic’s chosen plan?
