The Imperial Legion
While each territory of the Empire maintains it's own military, the Imperial Crown has mandated the existence of a standing military, and this is the Legion. While the Legion refers to the organization as a whole, as well as the individual Legions, which are groups of ten thousand soldiers. Legions are raised as a form of taxes each territory pays to the Empire- traditionally, for every one hundred thousand citizens of a territory, it must provide ten thousand soldiers to become Infantry Legionnaires, for each three hundred thousand citizens an additional ten thousand will be raised as cavalrymen, for ever five hundred thousand citizens an additional ten thousand shall be raised as aeronauts, and for every eight hundred thousand an additional ten thousand shall be raised for the vehicle corps. Each Legion is under the command of a Legion Captain, who has ten Legates, who have ten Lieutenants, who each have ten Sergeants.
In addition to the legions as described above, the Empire also keeps several Special Legions to serve a specific purpose. Most of the time, these are volunteers, but not always.
