The House of Grimm

The House of Grimm is one of the major Houses of Lancaster. From their seat of Darkhallow, the Grimms are tasked with the defense of Duchy Silverlight, the lands immediately around the capital city of Lancaster. The Grimms are said to be the oldest and most loyal bannermen directly in service to the Crown of Lancaster, and are often described as "grim as their name". Along with Houses Graves and Closeraven, they served The Morrigan before the Tegdylun migration to what is now Lancaster.   

The Oath of Service

House Grimm's contribution to the Circle of Loyalty is the Oath of Service- a promise to follow orders without question, to guard the Crown to the last man, at any cost up to and including the destruction of the Grimms. This service dates back as far as The Seeming War, when the first Arthur Silverlight led his armies to free many humans from enslavement by the darkfae, including what would become the House of Grimm. In thanks for this act, House Grimm has sworn to stick by House Silverlight until the end of time, referred to as "The Promise" by members of the House. The House of Grimm has taken a hound as their banner. The dog is black to symbolize the absolute seriousness of The Promise, and it is on a red field that represents the blood spilled by House Silverlight. They have also taken the Words A Promise Was Made as a further reminder.   

The Mortal Sidhe

Before the Tegdylun left Faerie, House Grimm served The Morrigan as their patron god. The Dark Lady is said to have been so impressed by the absolute loyalty of the Grimms that she gifted some of them with Unseelie magic, including the ability to transform into the hounds they chose as their sigil. The wicked fae-dogs are named for the House of Grimm, not the other way around. During the Seeming War, they used this gifted trickery with such skill that the House fae-name was earned: The Mortal Sidhe.
