Seal Bay Island
Seal Bay Island is a large rocky island off the western coast of Dark Isle.
Geography
The island itself is an inactive volcano that collapsed on itself, leaving a massive crater. Large caches of obsidian lie everywhere, though fertile soil is surprisingly common within the "bowl". Rainwater has collected into a lake in the very center, running down the bowl in natural channels from the surface. The collapse created a thin spiral of rock all the way around the crater that reaches all the way down, called the Slipping Way.
Ecosystem
Seal Bay Island is notorious for it's many varieties of poisonous plants, venomous animals, dangerous magical beasts, and of course the seals it is named for. The waters are infested with sharks, orca, and "anomalous aquatic monstrosities". Sea birds are common, including colonies of penguins, and rodents thrive on the island. Edible creeping vines grow upwards from the center crater, and hardy crops such as rock turnips have been brought in.
Localized Phenomena
The rocks of the center crater naturally produce a magical gas when exposed to rainwater. Nearly invisible and mostly harmless, this gas renders those who breathe it calm, pliable, and with very little free will of their own, at least for a time.
