Prevalent Languages
Common-Tongue: The most common language in Evergon, its creation by the Humans allowed the First People to communicate with one another in secret while under Tempests' rule. Its both spoken and written.
Primal: Verbal and physical language of the Beastfolk in Evergon, and although the animalistic sounding interpretations may vary across the different races who frequent it, their intent can still communicated between those that know the language. Commonly known by the Akatani, Kumosagi, Nezumi, Kulcoatl, and Orcs but also commonly learned by other races, especially those who travel the world frequently.
Stonespeech: The first spoken language, created by Quarris, and given to the Qor as a gift to celebrate the first year of their creation. Its deep drawn out tones are said to be reminiscent of the sounds of cascading rocks echoing through a deep cavern, or a whale song reverberating through thick stone. Stonespeech is spoken only, and is commonly known by the Qor and Dwarves, but otherwise uncommon amongst the other races.
Oceaic: Spoken and runic language of the water-dwelling races of Evergon, Oceaic is a difficult language to learn to speak for those not raised underwater. The sound of words and syllables can vary depending on whether the person speaking it is underwater, so hearing what the words actually sound like versus what they sound like outside of the water can be especially hard for most to wrap their head around. Its commonly known by Merfolk, and rarely taught or learned by the other races throughout Evergon.
Wodĭr: Colloquially known as the "Unspoken Voice of the Forest", Wodĭr allows those who know the language to communicate through their connection to nature. It is often seen as the most difficult language to learn as its completely nonverbal and entirely situational, acting as a telepathic means to communicate long distances through the amplification or negation of another's senses and awareness of their surroundings to convey information. It is somewhat rare among the Elves and Dryads, who spoke it for centuries before the Calamity, and very rarely acknowledged or known by the other races.
Void-Tongue: Thought by many to the be the sound of the cosmos itself, Void-Tongue is a spoken vibrational language created by Rusayn as a means of luring the First People to him, using it to bewitch and them in secrecy. Its deceivingly smooth and alluring soft tonal sounds can be quite mesmerizing, but the more aggressive, harsh tones of this language are said to be powerful enough to make people feel dizzy and nauseated. Its somewhat rare even amongst the races who originally used it, the Azraya and Fey, and very rarely acknowledged or known by the other races.
Archaic Languages
Anagogic: Now an incomplete set of mystical glyphs and formulaic symbols, supposedly created as a means to access temporal and spatial magics. Although pieces of the language have been found or recovered post Calamity, it is still very much indecipherably broken, even in circles whose interests lie in restoring the language who may have collected multiple parts already. The Anagogical language is very rarely known of, but its often said that once you find one person who knows it, you will meet more in due time.
Truescript: Quarris, whose stone demeanor was featureless, created a way to communicate to the other Ancients he encountered without need of a mouth. Truescript is an adaptive symbolistic language, in which magical symbols are cast in order to absorb and translate a language, and recast to respond in the absorbed language. With this, Quarris was capable of communicating in any language he heard. Truescript was taught to many while he was still living, but after his death it became rare to find someone who could teach it, and is now mostly unheard of post Calamity.
Deepspeech: The language of Fiends, demons, and devils, Deepspeech is said to sound like the hiss and roar of a room filled with snakes and basilisks. For the weak of heart, this is said to cause intense anxiety and physical discomfort.
Draconic: The spoken and written langauge of dragons, both elegant and complex in stroke and sound. Lost mostly to time as the dragons intelligent enough to speak and write are now centuries dead, with only their young roaming the lands, who presumably are much too young to remember the script or sound of their elders.
Eldrune: A long forgotten script used by unknown creatures thought to be even older than the Elder Ancients that created the races of the world. The only traces of the language have been found on strange archaic pillars found in parts of the Northern Isles and on some coastal regions near or in the water.
