Storehouse and Stable
Overview
Located just off the Market Square, the Storehouse and Stable is a utilitarian but essential part of Evenshade’s economy. It provides secure storage for goods moving between the Harbor, the Market, and the Shopping District, as well as stabling up to sixteen horses for traders, travelers, and local messengers.
The building is constructed of stout timber and stone, its wide doors opening to reveal carefully organized bays for cargo and neatly swept stalls for horses. By day, it bustles with carters, stablehands, and merchants bringing wares to and fro. By night, it settles into quiet watchfulness, the scent of hay mingling with the creak of timbers.
Function
- Storage: The Storehouse receives shipments from the Harbor, holding goods until they can be distributed to shops in the Shopping District or set out in the Market Square. Farmers also use it for temporary storage of grain, flour, and tools.
- Stabling: Sixteen stalls provide care and shelter for horses, with simple accommodations for their riders. A rotation of stablehands ensures the animals are fed and the place kept orderly.
- Community Hub: Carters, merchants, and travelers often meet here to exchange news, negotiate deliveries, or simply rest before entering the busier Market proper.
Notable Details
- Capacity: 16 horses, with tack and feed stored in lofts overhead.
- Cargo Bays: Large enough to hold a caravan’s worth of goods or multiple wagon-loads of produce from surrounding farms.
- Design: Sturdy oak beams reinforced with stone footings; double doors open onto both the Market side and a rear lane for discreet arrivals.
- Atmosphere: By day, the clamor of hooves and wagons; by night, a hushed and watchful stillness.
