Wayfinding Obelisks
A path through the desert

The wayfinding obelisks are a set of tall, thin towers of solid granite that can be found throughout the Izuuri Desert in Bazuur. They are around fifty metres high and come to a point, and they are each topped with a glistening cap of brass. A couple of these caps have had to be replaced, having been stolen over the years. Each obelisk is placed to be visible within around a mile of another, and are used to navigate a reliable path through the ever-shifting sands.
They were built during the construction of the Shiran, after it was discovered the roads used in the rest of Bazuur would not survive contact with the desert. They would be covered with sand in less than a day. Someone following the Shiran can therefore continue through the desert by travelling from one obelisk to the next.
I love the image of the obelisks rising over the desert! How far down did they have to go to find solid anchor points for them? It must have been a monumental building project!
I think probably at least a good few metres, probably more - some of them are probably just as long underground as they are above ground. It would have taken a long time, but the results were definitely worth it.
