The Erish

The Erish are the hardy, seafaring natives of Erias, the largest island of the shattered continent of Caia. Settlements are spread out all over the island, but the majority are near rivers for easy access to the ocean.
It is generally accepted by scholars that Erias is the birthplace of the Faith, one of the largest religions on Etrea. At some point over the last two millennia, the Erish colonised or conquered many of the islands to the north of Caia, spreading their faith there. Some intrepid Erish even made it as far as western Aenica and the Frozen North.
I’m curious what the birth of the Faith looked like, and what preexisting religious beliefs it arose from.
