Athana
Wind and rock

Athana is a long, thin country in northern Caia, sandwiched between the mountains of the Teeth and the rocky shoreline of the Circle. The land is comprised of wind-blasted hills, with massive boulders shaped by weather and time littering the landscape. In the valleys between the hills, bogs have formed, creating an essential source of peat, which is used for fuel in lieu of wood.
The main livelihood in Athana is that of sheep farming, and of the refining of wool-based textiles. Due to the windy climate, agriculture is difficult, but the Athanians have learnt to farm with specialised walled fields; they focus on low-lying root vegetables such as turnips and potatoes.
I’m guessing the soil doesn’t support trees large enough to form windbreaks for the fields; is wood hard to come by in general here?
Wood is rare, yes. They have adapted to not really using wood for much of anything. Like peat for fire, stone for building, etc.
