Kendar City Relic Square

Relic Square is the name given to the small structure in Kendar City which contains the only remaining statue of Allshadow. The name was carefully chosen to avoid using Allshadow's name or any kind of reverential connotation.   It consists of a huge statue of Allshadow made out of gold. It used to be set with precious jewels and coated with faux stardust, but these were removed soon after Allshadow's defeat. The entire statue had been intended to be melted down afterwards, but the Allshadow Images Preservation Society was formed and successfully challenged the decision. Since then the statue has not changed.   Surrounding the statue is an open structure which was intended by Allshadow to mock the Viri's temples. Intricately designed to invert all of their symbolism, it surrounds the statue, which resides in its open courtyard. In the days of Allshadow, it was used as a propaganda stage. This has not been preserved in the same way as the statue; although full records of the original design remain, all the painted images have been deliberately stripped away, and Allshadow's personal throne was burned.   It has become a part of Sikendar culture to pay visits to the statue as a means of reflecting on the choices they make, Allshadow having become the embodiment of what wrong choices can lead to. The Sikendar people are openly ashamed of the part they played in the Age of Blood and Bone, and a need to atone for their ancestors' decisions runs through their culture. Many children are first aware of this in history class, which on Kendar go deep into the atrocities of Allshadow very early in the curriculum, and feature multiple visits to the statue.   The structure surrounding the statue has been the subject of heated debate, with challenges made to the Allshadow Images Preservation Society over their preservation of it in addition to the statue. Inspections show that it needs maintenance to remain stable. The subject has proved extremely divisive, with some arguing that the structure is as much a part of the statue as the gold itself; the other arguing that the temple-like construction has twisted the meaning and made the reminder of the worst part of their history a shrine to it instead, and that it should be knocked down rather than preserved. The debate is still ongoing even within the Allshadow Images Preservation Society.
