Wizard Tower
While wizards are normally nomadic creatures, choosing to explore the world and grow their knowledge, they will always keep a collection of their finds, research, and life’s work in a protected location. It also serves as a resting place and a chance to recuperate from their travels. Each wizard tower is different and they all personalise it to their tastes and interests, inside and out.
Building a tower
No one really knows how wizard towers are built, a wizard has never been observed to build one and they sort of pop up overnight. It is assumed wizards infuse them with a lot of spell work as it would be impossible to get that amount of material without notice.
Location
Wizards avoid people and will choose to place their tower in the most remote place they can find that suits their tastes. While towers appear to be firmly planted in the ground, they have been known to move if the wizard feels threatened or simply wants a change of scenery.
Tower description
A window is common as wizards like to be able to survey the scenery. Either to protect their work or to give them inspiration. It is often the only bit of light some wizards get. Many wizards will just have a door but lots choose to disguise their entrance through hiding it with a spell, trap, riddle, or puzzle to get in. The inside is often bigger on the inside with lots of random and mysterious hidden rooms that defy the laws of gravity. Most wizards don't even know the extent of the rooms in their tower.
Storage
Wizards store their collection of work and life studies in their tower often leaving it for months, even years on time to collect more information. However, they always come back as it's where they store everything they've collected. Most of the books in the tower have been written by the wizard however they do also collect old texts written by others. Often, there are also random artifacts they've collected on their travels or inventions created by an artificer wizard.
Consciousness
The tower will eventually gain a consciousness with the amount of spell work that goes on in the tower. This may be subtle and only do stuff like helping the wizard find something they’ve lost or opening a room they need, however, some consciousnesses are active in the wizard’s daily life and basically manage the tower, leaving the wizard to their work.
Other types
Not all wizards choose to use towers, however the majority of them do. Other places include dungeons, abandoned buildings, and other remote places. It is unknown why wizards choose towers however it is thought to be because of the abundance of stone in Aykor and the potential for moving if needed.
