Camildir

Camildir is the capital of Harkuldir and its largest city. It is the oldest standing city in the world, and is located entirely underground. The Hall of the Dwarf Kings serves as the seat of government for the dwarven nation, and was once the residence of the dwarven monarchy. Camildir's surrounding caverns are home to the largest fungi farms in Harkuldir. These farms supply approximately half of the nation's food and fiber needs, all produced from the mushrooms, lichen, and moss grown underground here.

History

During the Pliscian Winter, the Dwarves, led by their deity Yohanan, retreated to Camildir and sealed all passages to their ancient halls. Despite the saftey of the mountains, the destruction of the surface world above caused tunnel collapses and earthquakes. The dwarves suffered major casualties, and after countless generations of living amongst Pliscian technology, they had lost much of the knowledge their forefathers had learned.   With the help of Yohanan and the Collective, the dwarves relearned the secrets of crafting, mining, and metallurgy. The first forges and homes of the displaced dwarves became the foundations of Camildir. Soon, Yohanan forged part of his essence into the Crown of the Mountains, and the city grew under the guidance of the first Dwarven King. Great halls were built.   Though Yohanan soon left Essaria, the population grew swiftly, as did the need for more settlements. It was from Camildir that the nation of Harkuldir spread north to the rest of the Harkuldir Mountains. A millenia-old system of Pliscian mining tunnels were unearthed, providing passage throughout the mountain range. Camildir remained the center of tradeways throughout the underground nation
