Gallwort Bushes

Botanist Findings:

Native to coastal grasslands the Gallwort Bushes are a welcoming sight to sailors. As the bushes are only known to grow on soft sloping and fertile coastline, the perfect place to weigh anchor. The bush's purple flowers are easily identified and the bush can grow up to 8 feet high in the proper conditions.   As one of the more easily harvested plants it is often over-harvested leading to calls for conservation. Bell's Tower has led the charge, gathering a number of specimens for preservation and then calling for leaders of every culture to outlaw mass harvesting. Dwarves and Elves signed decrees outlawing mass harvesting immediately followed by the Tabaxi. The result has been the continued growth in these areas, whereas Humans and Gnomes have seen the plant all but die out from their territory.

Horticultural Findings:

The bush does not have much in the way of protection when compared with its contemporaries, with leaves that harden in the winter months and petrify making them as sharp as razor blades. Aside from that harvest is a relatively simple task as is domestication. Many farms have taken to planting Gallwort around their farms to keep animals out of winter crops.   As the pods inside the bushes are only useful for inducing nausea it planted with a barrier between crops and the bushes. The pods are light purple and carry 5-6 seeds, 20 are needed to make Gallwort Serum, a potent emetic (induces vomiting).

Herbalism:

Primarily used by physicians as a cure for an ingested poison, it can be brewed quickly with purified or holy water. Although once brewed its lifespan as an effective emetic is only 3 days. This is why most physicians prefer to keep the necessary components on hand and opt to make them on a needed basis. This has of course caused the price of readymade Gallwort Serum to increase especially in the winter.
