Bell's Tower
History & Lore
Many believe that the strength of the Tower, and the Bell family comes from their stronghold in the north. The tower itself stands as the unquestioned seat of civic duty and philanthropy the world over, while the Bells' with their lofty ideals occupy both a literal (and figurative) high ground. The family has sustained their legacy through any number of tyrants and slaver kings through the generations. Starting with Iobard Bell, who abandoned his life as a ranger on the frontier to push back the Ivory Heretics, who would have trampled under foot what was then only the small village of Viggrom. The city and its Apostle King have paid forward that debt to the Bell family every generation since. With the wealth they have accumulated, the Bells have dedicated their lives and livelihoods to ridding the world of its less favorable characteristics, war, famine, and slavery. While this has garnered praise widely around Espen there are no shortages of groups and individuals who find the Bells' agenda more than a little inconvenient. Not least of which, the Dread Obsidians who, in a foolish attempt to lay siege to the tower sent 100 men to Viggrom. Failing to recognize the family had not only built its legacy on its quests for knowledge and peace but also a deep abiding love of martial combat, the Bells sent back the only 5 Obsidians who were left alive with a message. The Bells are the north, do not come for the north.Ownership:
Dommond Bell III was passed the mantle of lead scribe 6 years ago and has spent most of his days advocating against the Dread Obsidians operations in northern Espen as the Tabaxi region. He authorized a 7,000 GP distribution to neighboring towns for fortifications, weapons, guard towers and patrols. While this has seen a reduction in the presence of the pirate gang to the north, his concerns that these efforts have simply displaced the violence. He also commissioned over 500 covert operations, targeting the illegal slave trade routes leading south, freeing political prisoners and gathering intelligence on the base of operations for the Dread Obsidians rumoured to be somewhere in the Bittermane Mountains.Available Readings:
