Kamar

Kamar is located in Volat on the Pelago Islands.

The once small town was for a long time main Centaur and Elves - shown by the style and architecture. Yet in the 1348AG a clan of Goliath moved in. The town expanded and changed to accommodate them.

It is a very natural town, despite it's size. Numerous trees and green areas are scattered throughout. It over looks the Dragonfly River - stands opposite The Tablelands.
The roads are noticeably wider dirt roads with floral edging.

Decorative plants are inside and outside almost very building.
Stairs are unnecessary as all buildings are single level, and have slight sloping ramps to enter the tall and wide doors. The land itself has a few gentle, natural slopes.

The working class of all the species deal with one another willingly - however some of the rich will be pickier about their living quarters.
Ancient elven noble bloodlines try to remain pure, and rarely mix with their hooved neighbours socially. The highborn centaurs do live inside the town of Kamar - however they hold social balls and other events in an elegant spacious stables-style manor on the edge of town. The two higher ranked Goliath families own either the arena or the melee combat training college.

The public buildings being massive halls and the pavilions with the ability to host Elves, Goliath and centaurs side by side. These areas would be mostly open air with perhaps some kind of adjustable roof, and other moving parts, in case of really bad weather.

Cooking and socializing is often done in hearth halls which are shared by families of Elves, Goliath and centaurs. The hearth hall is the centre of family life where Elves, Goliath and centaurs eat and socialize. The whole of work, art, and public activities focus around the large open areas of the city.

The lanes are interwoven with orchards of fruit bearing plants, and the city alternates its appearance with the changing of the seasons. The public squares are filled with trees and bushes - encircled with Market Stalls, tradesman, and taverns.

The chiefs of the centaurs would share a very open fortress compound towards the outskirts of the village which overlooked the defensive walls, and provide easy access to the surrounding countryside. There is a greeting hall here, too, but designed with overhanging murals of past victories and adorned with the weapons of defeated foes. The centaur chiefs command the same respect as the elven nobility, and they make up the majority of the generals of the military when called to war.

The elven nobility serves under the Forest King who command both the Elves and the magicks of the natural world. It is due to his guidance, his circle of druids, and the strength of his warrior queen that the Elves have earned the respect of the centaurs and wove this village into the forest. He overlooks the village from the green spire, a tower with a spiraling walkway accessible to both races that circles all the way to the guarded terrace at the top. The tower itself is dripping with wonderful plants and flowers of many types. The windows are blown from green glass, and the lamps all share a comfortable green glow.

The other elven manses are incorporated into the oldest trees and resemble more the style of elven architecture familiar to the mainland with rising towers and greeting halls which seem the only thing sized to fit their centaur neighbors.

As for how the two races interact, the common Elves and centaurs get along almost seamlessly. The large lanes of the city are mostly filled with centaur, but it is not unusual to see many Elves riding on the back of their centaur friends. Centaurs consider the behavior very natural, but this opinion only extends to their friends. Strangers should not expect to simply hop on a centaurs back and receive a warm reception. For the other Elves, those who do not stroll on the road side often ride in carts pulled by centaur porters who run goods between all the markets and the Docks.

Still the relationship between the races is not one of master and servant. They see themselves mostly as equals, both blessed by mother nature. They often become lifelong friends, and even form relationships akin to lovers. These pairings are often referred to as beloveds, and is not frowned upon. Since the races can't have children together, each person in a beloved pair is still expected to find mates within their own race. Many stories of jealousy among mates of both races are told involving beloveds of the other race.

The elven nobles and centaur chiefs often have the most disagreements as they haven't adopted as much of the lifestyle as their neighbors. Though they all serve under the forest king who treat both fairly, they often see the other race as rivals for prestige and position. Still they both see the value in one another. The centaurs are valued for their strength and reliability. The Elves are valued for their crafting of both metal and magic. The working together of the two races has created a powerful military force which keeps them safe from the raids of enemy hordes.

The only other centaur to wear saddles are the members of the Forked Fellowship. This military unit trains Elves and centaurs to fight together seamlessly with perfect trust and one will. Both creatures act as one, and neither is supposed to dominate the other. Often this unit produces the best archers, lancers, and rangers as pairs. The relationship relies on infinite trust between each pair, and there is a secret initiation ritual which is said to make the elf and centaur both one life only forked into two minds and two bodies. The pride of being in the Forked Fellowship is high, and is a way to prestige even for those not born among the nobles. However, this life is even more dangerous than a common soldier not just because of the danger these pairs are expected to handle. The Forked Fellowship has a long history of pairs having a falling out for many a reasons, and on many occasions these disagreements end in duels to the death between the pair. Those within the Forked Fellowship accept these duels as necessary, and often outsiders who criticize that they could never understand...

Was it built for agriculture, but it later became important to be a defensible position in a war against gnolls?
