The Lunar Covenant
The Lunar Covenant is more than just a rebellion—it is a faith, a philosophy, and a way of life. It is a spiritual movement that venerates Lunarel, the Eternal Moon, embracing the values of balance, transformation, and hidden wisdom.
Unlike the hierarchical, militant Church of the Radiant Flame, the Lunar Covenant is a decentralized religious order, where oracles, shamans, and spiritual leaders each guide their communities in different ways. There is no single high priest, no single temple that defines their faith—instead, their belief system is woven into their very existence, shaped by the phases of the moon, the cycles of nature, and the ever-changing Veil between reality and the unknown.
To the Empire, the Covenant is a cult of deception, clinging to the fading remnants of a heretical goddess.
To its followers, the Covenant is a path to enlightenment, a rejection of tyranny, and the last hope for restoring balance to a world thrown into chaos by Solenara’s relentless light.
Structure
The Twilight Accord (The Covenant’s Council)
- The closest thing the Covenant has to a central leadership, composed of elders, mystics, and tribal leaders.
- They do not rule, but rather guide and mediate, ensuring that disputes between different factions are settled peacefully.
- The Accord is constantly debating philosophy, strategy, and prophecy, often coming to no definitive answers—only more questions.
The Circle of Shadows (The Mystics & Oracles)
- The spiritual heart of the Covenant, composed of dream-walkers, astrologers, and seers.
- They interpret the Moon’s omens, seeking guidance from the Veil and the echoes of lost gods.
- Some are deeply respected, while others are feared for their unsettling visions.
The Crescent Blades (The Defenders of the Faith)
- A militant order sworn to protect the Covenant from Imperial aggression.
- Unlike the Templars, they do not believe in grand battlefields—they fight in shadows, striking where the Empire is weakest.
- Some traditionalists within the Covenant disapprove of their violent methods, believing that warfare leads only to more imbalance.
The Lunar Tribes (The Keepers of Tradition)
- The nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples who have followed Lunarel since before the Empire’s rise.
- They live in harmony with nature, following the Moon’s cycles in all things—harvest, migration, ritual, and war.
- Each tribe has its own interpretation of Lunarel, sometimes conflicting with other sects.
Mythology & Lore
Tenets of Faith
The Moon Reveals What the Sun Hides
- Where Solenara claims absolute truth, Lunarel teaches that truth is ever-changing, shaped by perspective and time.
- Knowledge must be sought, questioned, and uncovered—for wisdom is found not in certainty, but in the willingness to explore the unknown.
Balance, Not Domination
- Just as the Moon waxes and wanes, so too must power, fate, and even the gods themselves.
- The world was never meant to belong solely to the Sun—the current war is not one of good vs. evil, but an imbalance that must be corrected.
The Veil is Sacred
- The Veil—the barrier between the material world and the unseen realms of spirits and dreams—is a source of divine power.
- Some are gifted with sight beyond the Veil, able to interpret dreams, commune with lost souls, or glimpse fate itself.
- The Empire fears the Veil because it represents what they cannot control.
Lunarel Walks Between Forms, and So Do We
- Lunarel is neither fixed nor unchanging, shifting with the Moon’s phases.
- The Covenant embraces those who do not fit within the rigid structures of the Empire—many of its members are non-binary, gender-fluid, or outside traditional roles.
- The idea that identity, belief, and fate are fixed is an illusion imposed by Solenara’s zealots.
The Stars Remember What the Sun Forgets
- Before the Empire’s rise, before Solenara’s dominance, there was another way—a world where Moon and Sun were in harmony.
- The Empire has erased history, destroyed knowledge, and burned books to maintain its narrative.
- The Lunar Covenant’s mission is to recover what was lost and restore the forgotten past.
Sects
The Path of Balance vs. The Path of Revenge
- Some believe that Solenara’s followers must be enlightened, that true victory will come through restoring balance, not conquest.
- Others seek vengeance, believing the Empire’s crimes can only be repaid in blood.
Traditionalists vs. Reformists
- Some believe the old ways must be preserved, that modern interpretations of Lunarel’s teachings weaken the faith.
- Others seek to adapt the faith for a new era, believing that the Covenant must evolve to survive.
