Caledonia

The largest mega-city in Eryia, Caledonia is the decayed ruin of a lost civilation.

Prior to the Jordbani, Caledonia was a thriving city of moderate size. The community was somewhat out of the way, located far from the capital of Jorathar City, but as it was located at the fork of the Vatn and the Disef rivers, the city had a bustling economy.

It's economic engine was fueled by the rivers, but since these were sizable natural boundaries, the city was frequently overrun by warring nations. The rise of the House of Eryia put a stop to this and the city enjoyed a time of prosperity and growth under the continent-wide government's rule.

At the time of the Great Poisoning Caledonia was a moderate sized city, but well positioned relative to the disaster. The city was far enough away to not be included in the MiorskrĂpior the mass migration of Magichem victims out of the area. The city was able to absorb people gradually and take measures to adjust to the changing situation. The city grew in population.

That changed with Phillion’s Proclamation and the fall of the House of Eryia. Whatever civic order existed prior to the dissolution of the government went away, and the city was subjected to tribal warfare as local tribe leaders vied for resources and territory in the population center. The north quarter of the city in particular was burned to the ground three times as there were no fire abatement service to control/check the fires. While rebuilding usually was done - the areas being fought over typically had significant importance such as river access.

Today Caledonia is a major city center and the home of some of the largest warlords and most powerful tribes including the Slate Scarrs under the leadership of Desmond Slate. It is also the location of the famous Headquarters of the Department of Patents and Intellectual Property which is notable as it escaped destruction throughout the many transitions the city has experienced.
