Bjod Keipr

"The thing's incredible I'm telling you. You can carry huge loads, much larger than you can carry by yourself - even people, and there's no cost except for the vehicle itself. No expensive messy animals to care for, no black water, not even magic. There's no way these are not going to sell. The biggest problem we'll have is people ripping off the design."
— Renault Jackson

In the heart of Caledonia the Headquarters of the Department of Patents and Intellectual Property is a consistent source of innovative ideas that are being understood and commercialized by the Slate Scarrs who bring the pre-magic technology stored in this ancient building to modern Eryia. One of their most recent finds - and designs is of the Bjod Keipr or "land canoe".

The Bjod Keipr is a multi-wheeled cart-like structure which is propelled by human power. Through a series of gears and chains, the operator is able to turn the wheels of the cart which are quite large to propel the cart forward. The front wheels of the cart are on a pivot which allows the operator to steer the cart and negotiate through streets and around obstacles. Versions of the cart are being designed for transport of humans as well as cargo. Cargo loads for this vehicle can be as heavy as 400 lbs depending on the structural integrity of the cart's design, the load rating and gear ratios of the gear and chain mechanism, and the strength of the human operator.

The Bjod Keipr is entirely human propelled. There is no need for expensive, messy animals to operate this transportation device, ot the incredibly scarce black water that fueled pre-magic Eryia, or even the now unreliable magic that the ancients used as a matter of course. Some versions of the Bjod Keipr

The Bjod Keipr is revolutionizing local trade and stimulating economies, making previously unreachable or expensive markets available to craftsmen, tradespersons, and merchants of all sorts of goods.
