Elada Hill
Home of Aetherfall Academy
"The old academy sits in the shadow of the hill, with the town spreading out from it. Why not on top? I dunno, but there's a reason. Probably local superstitions, this place is full of those."Situated along the Old Alishan Way, the town of Elada Hill exists as a haven for travelers heading either west or east. There are ample fields of grain and livestock outside the town walls, and it is relatively safe from raiders. The town itself is only a few generations old as a notable town, but the prestigious Aetherfall Academy has been here for longer. Those seeking instruction in the arcane arts would have to show notable promise to be admitted, and they are the premier establishment outside of either the Imperial Arcanists or Myrisian Sages for those wanting to learn how to use arcane magic.
Within the region, Elada Hill may be best known for the academy but it serves a good deal of other needs. Sunwheat is the major crop here, alongside livestock farms raising pigs or goats for their own products. The Broken River Trading Company keeps an office here specializing in food and drink foreign to Helenic, usually at a price double what it could be acquired at within their own regions. Despite the markup, the shop does a good deal of business as there is a broad selection of items at many price ranges. Beyond this, nearly every basic nead of travelers can be met at the most basic level, making the journey across Helenic smooth for many caravans.
Historians and scholars local to the Broken Spine wilderness know the academy is an old insitution, but also know there are signs of previous settlements which are often missed. For instance, the old bathhouse is built in a style which is not in line with either Imperial or Myrisian standards. It is, in fact, built in the style of what is now Varinas Hall in Parseil. There are also old aqueducts which run from the hill nearby to the sunwheat fields, which still function for their original purpose when heavy rains land. Scholars who have investigated the matter believe Elada Hill is the fifth settlement in the region, and the bathhouse and aqueducts are not from the first to be here. However, there has not been much interest in delving into the past of Elada Hill when there are much more "interesting" choices in trying to uncover more about Parseil's connection to the region.
