Abyssal Shore Reef

Oh how I yearn, to meet my lover's eyes, yet I am just a man with no stern, and she is beyond the tide...
— A horrible love poem by a man walking along the beach.
While travelling and visiting any part of the Oceans has been banned since the Devastation Pandemic, it hasn't stopped people from dreaming of what could be out there. Few places have enamoured such attention, other than the Abyssal Shore Reef. Travel to this particular reef has been forbidden far longer than the ban on the oceans, as it's within the cove of the central continent. Once an amazing place, it's been next to a nuclear wasteland since the beginning of the Age of Mourning. However, people still whisper of the reef's beauty, though many of these rumours started before the inhabited landmass was over run with Ravagers. The hope is to catch sight of the mythological people with tails for legs.

People often fight to be able to sneak past anything preventing them from visiting the reef. Bringing with them the Sea Peaches so that they may swim out from shore to the reef without worrying about air. If they manage to get there, and survive such an inane venture, they are met with an immediate quarantine on the way back to their nation. And depending on what century they tried such a stunt, it could have easily costed their life.

Geography

The Abyssal Shore Reef is a warm water fringing reef separated by a lagoon from the edge of the central continent. Stretching across the South-west part of the coast, the reef once acted as a hazard to the ships that would pass over it, though not shallow enough to be considered a 'barrier' reef. Once devastated by the nuclear weapons used on the nearby continent, the reef has recovered over the many centuries that have passed. Now it is vibrant with life and biodiversity, though likely no where close to once populated the reef back in pre-Age of Mourning times.

Flora & Fauna

It is populated by many creatures, and many are certain that there are undiscovered species waiting to be found. From the benign fish, to people with fishtails, people are often motivated to see what lives within the reef. They are more likely to find what lives on the shore of the continent, waiting for a bite to eat. Or maybe there are people that find these rumoured 'mermaids' that choose to live with them for the rest of their lives? Though maybe they aren't as friendly as they had hoped to find, as they swim clumsy along the corals and fish.
