The Wild Hunt

Summary

Those within the Ceilic Region speak of a supernatural group of spirits racing across the night sky like a storm of phantasmagorical hunters on their long dead steeds. They streak across the night sky for hours at a time, and people are told to stay inside whilst they ride, or risk the danger of becoming the prey of these ghostly hunters. Whilst hiding inside their houses, the natives of the Ceilic Region report hearing a ghostly, nightmarish shriek echoing throught the sky.   The Wild Hunt has never been encountered during daylight hours, some druids believe that this is because the Wild Hunt fears Helios, while others believe that the Wild Hunt is always roaming, but can only be seen at night due to their ghostly nature. Many druids point to the Wild Hunt as proof that their Titan Gods can pluck the souls of the faithful from the domain of Hades.   It has been known for people to drunkenly wander outside during one of the rides of the Wild Hunt and to never be seen again, though others claim to have gone outside while the Hunt was riding and were left unharmed. Some believe that the Wild Hunt only goes after those that provoke or insult them, which would explain why many drunks go missing, but not as many sober people.   Little is known about the true nature or motivation of the Wild Hunt. Some believe that they hunt down demonic spirits that would threaten the mortal realm and act as noble protectors of the Ceilics. Others believe that they hunt the souls of the living, so that they might join the Hunt. Whatever the case, those that anger the Hunt can be certain that death will come for them, showing that they are no paragons of morality. Despite this, the Wild Hunt has also been known to reward those who bid them welcome or even aid them, though the reliablity of such claims is not irrefutable.

Spread

The myth of the Wild Hunt is known all throughout the Ceilic Region, and is known well to Authenian scholars, but practically no one within the Venatorian Empire has any knowledge on the lives, history or culture of those who are native to the Ceilic Region.

Cultural Reception

The Ceilics see the Wild Hunt as an indomitable force of power, not to be toyed or reckoned with. The Wild Hunt are both a symbol of untamed power and a cautionary tale.   The Authenians who have visited the Ceilic Region see the Wild Hunt as a great mystery, and they often pick up on a feeling of sorrow from the flying spirits, seeing the ghosts as tragic figures doomed to endlessly roam the night sky without any true understanding of what has cursed them to their fate.

In Literature

The Wild Hunt has inspired many Ceilic and Authenian poets and writers. Those with the Ceilic Region write about them with awe and fearful reverence, but many within the Authenian Republic try to dramatize it into tragic tales or romantic storytellings.
