O&F5 Session 8: Welcome to Cappebraccia

9-11 Oakenfall, 103 III-Inter, Cappebraccia    Oloward the Magnificent and the Faithful Five arrive in Cappebraccia through the west gate, and find the colourful city of a Thousand Banners gripped by a tense atmosphere. This is reinforced immediately by the sight of a Low Elf being beaten up by a patrol of scarlatti while protesting that "he is not the Preacher".   While Bubbles works on some projects at a monastery of the Wayward Brothers of Saint Elisia, the rest of the party gets to work on securing a straniership with one of the guilds, a license needed to practice magic within the city, and secure a license to trade for Ciatore Caliberto. They manage to strike a bargain with the Worshipful Brotherhood of the Emerald Gonfalon, one of the major Bannered Guilds of Cappebraccia, to gain a straniership and a license in return for performing some underhanded work for them against their rivals, the Company of the Azure Pennant by infiltrating a warehouse.   Meanwhile, they've managed to find a favoured haunt in the city at a dockside tavern irreverently named the Tipsy Trader, run by the friendly, if a bit chatty, low elf Led Falanodele, who quickly takes a liking to them. They also visit Santa Polinica Cathedral, where Ievos is surprised to find his contact "the Fiddler" is the rotund, knitting nun known as Sister Fidelitas. Tavi donates the prayerbook that came with the letters to the cathedral library. This is a salient detail because in the meantime, among other matters, Bubbles San takes a closer look at the letters and concludes they contain a cypher that is usually deciphered by a common book, which might well be the prayerbook. Oloward also runs into members of the Order of the White Raven and gets into a scrape with undead.   On the night of 11 Oakenfall, Oloward and crew infiltrate the warehouse by gondola. There, they find the cargo the Gonfalon is looking for (stolen by the Pennant, allegedly). However, the warehouse is guarded and the scuffle that ensues attracts the attention of a scarlatti patrol, especially after they free a caged ogre who goes by the name Grunn to help them in the fight and befriend him. They escape from the warehouse, with Grunn going his separate way, and make their way back to the Tipsy Trader.
