O&F5 Session 15: Getting Hammered
General Summary
20 Oakenfall, 103 III-Inter, Cappebraccia
Having finished up their business at the Cathedral, Oloward the Magnificent and the Faithful Five decide it's time for some well-deserved downtime. Their old haunt of the Tipsy Trader having been forcibly relocated to The Seat, they are forced to look for a new one, which they do in classic O&F5 fashion by randomly accosting a gnome in the street. The gnome points them towards the Hammer House, a dwarvish pub in the artisan's quarter run by a cantankerous old Dwarvish woman. Much to his discomfort, they insist that he joins them, alongside the Lorassonne Ambassador, who relates that he was sent to make a truce with Cappebraccia and warn them about Arlesia's intentions. In this contrext, he also refers to Vilire, Cardinal Chalesien's reputation as éminence grise and first minister of Arlesia. Tavi strikes up a conversation with an elvish guild clerk named Arduino.
A night of shenanigans ensues which ends in Nykkaen having to be lugged up the stairs at closing time, much to the landlady's chagrin. The next day, the party wakes up with the mother of all hangovers, but perseveres in their business. They examine the ledgers retrieved from Callado Royas's office, finding that he was regularly paid by someone known as the Abbé de Montignac in addition to personal payments from the Arlesian embassy. They also revealed a corrupt network within Cappebraccia. Tavi copies it for further reference.
As the party is off to the Grey Market to complete their deal with the Preacher, they hear a town crier report that Filiarch Nathalus VII, head of the Filian Church, has proclaimed a new Hespialic Inquisition in response to the Bishop's alleged murder by Chanters, which terrifies the locals since the last Inquisition brought great misery to Hespial shortly after the advent of the Chantry. Tavi mentions her intentions to visit the Filiarch at the Citadel of the Holy Mountain.
The party resolves to do something about the Inquisition, and finds the Preacher as determined. He also mentions that he might be able to influence the new bishop to counteract the Inquisition.
In order to gather evidence to prove the Chantry's innocence, the party re-enters the catacombs beneath the Elvish Ghetto, but find no additional evidence. Re-examining the map points the group towards Sanarionna Priory, where the Bishop was last seen.
On the way back to another night at the Hammer, Oloward gets slipped a mysterious note asking for a meeting outside the West Gate, which he keeps a secret except for the fact that he has "a date", delaying the party's departure from Cappebraccia for another day...
