Pyre Peninsula
The Pyre Peninsula is home to The Settlement . The peninsula is cut off from the mainland by a small chain of mountains and is heavily wooded. It has a set of ruins toward the end of the peninsula and on an island to the north. The island has living things there; the end of the peninsula is marshy and devoid of most life.
The Pyre Peninsula has been named by outsiders due to the tradition of The Settlement to cremate their dead via small funeral pyres.
Geography
The peninsula has mountains at the southwest end, but it flattens out into rolling forests. A cliff diving into the ocean is at the end of the peninsula. Rivers flow from the mountains to the oceans; one fork of the river flows into a lake. It is surrounded by an ocean and contains a cave system with at least one known entrance.
Fauna & Flora
Lots of woodland creatures live in the woods and lots of plants and fungi are available for collection. The residents of The Settlement hunt these resources sustainably, ensuring that the next generation will have access to these resources. Both freshwater fish in rivers and ocean fish are caught.
There is less life in the marsh toward the end of the peninsula. If there is life, those in The Settlement do not know what it is, as they do not go into that area.
Natural Resources
Wood is a primary resource. Pines on and near the mountains are plentiful, while deciduous trees of varying types (oak, ash, etc) make up the forests in the middle of the peninsula. Small portions of the peninsula are farmed for grain and vegetables. Animals are also kept near The Settlement for food and labor. Some rock is quarried from the Cave of the Deep, but it is not a major resource utilized by those nearby, as doing so would disrupt the collection of Death Cap mushrooms.
