Raulf
Raulf was an associate of Mara Stonehammer, a convenient sidekick in quest to gain the Althenan treasure. Like many Bravian criminals, he lived off smuggling, petty theft, and the occasional bit of forgery when coin was tight. He never had Mara’s obsession with grand prizes, but he had something else: an instinct for betrayal that could make a snake blush.
When Mara became consumed with the dream of Althena’s hidden treasure, Raulf played along—at first. But when he realized just how far her obsession went, he made the smarter (if slimier) choice: to sell her out.
On Althena, Raulf’s treachery brought him into conflict not just with Mara, but with the party. While initially hostile to the party, they formed an uneasy alliance behind Mara's back. They'd work together to gain the treasure. The party, at this point, he no reason to trust Mara more than Raulf.
But Raulf's underhanded maneuvers and sabotage made him a persistent thorn in their side during their search for the island’s secrets. In the end, Raulf’s betrayal didn’t win him the treasure—but it did help unravel Mara Stonehammer, feeding her paranoia and ultimately hastening her downfall.
