Burial Mounds on Althena

The dead do not sleep here. They wait.

Scattered across the rocky highlands and coastal ridges of Althena, the Ancient Ariac Burial Mounds are enduring remnants of a forgotten era—constructed long before the island fell to Grak Urval dominion. These mounds, built by early Ariac settlers and nobles, are believed to date back to the late Magnian Period (~1000 CE).
Though most now appear as overgrown hills or moss-covered cairns, the more intact mounds feature intricate subterranean chambers, elaborate death masks, and burial offerings once meant to accompany the dead into the afterlife.

Cache of Lesidis
When the party entered one of the Ariac mounds, they were set upon by zombies. Exploring the forgotten tomb, it seemed to contain sealed pots coated with traces of a mysterious white resin. Upon further inspection, the residue was identified— the same necrochemical agent linked to zombification as the Hootalin had pilfered from a North Sea Ship.
The presence of Lesidis within an Ariac tomb predating modern history raised disturbing questions. Among the remains were signs of attempted mechanical zombification—grates in the floor meant to release solidified Lesidis into the chamber, triggered by weight or time. Though the trap had degraded, the solidified white pellets still retained trace necrotic aura. Hootalin, as the party's alchemical expert, collected samples for analysis.
