Political affiliation
Political affiliation
Light: one of the 2 major political factions in the empire, in favour of increasing the regulations of magic and protections for commoners at the national level.
Dark: the other major political faction in the empire, in favour of leaving each Estate decide their own laws.
Government: the individuals working for or loyal to the imperial government, and so outside of the Light-Dark paradigm.
Other: a lot of commoners do not truly care for politics at the national levels and do not identifiy as Light, Dark, or pro-government.

Rank:
High nobility: individuals whose House currently rules an Estate, and so the most powerful mages in the empire.
Low nobility: individuals whose House used to rule an Estate but who were driven away from it; their power level vary but is generally considered to be lower since they have not been able to reconquer their Estate
Commoners: individuals whose family has never ruled an Estate; they go from people with almost to magic to very powerful individuals looking at soon conquering an Estate of their own.
Members of the Light faction
The 'good guys' caring for the poor and the oppressed, all wishing to outlaw dangerous magic for the good of the empire. All lies and propaganda of course.
Important characters
Lady Annabelle Alyssenne is the main character of
