House Evergreen

Lore

House Evergreen, was one of the most powerful and respected noble houses in the kingdom. Today, it stands as a shadow of its former self. Founded in the Age of Petty Kings in 588 CA House Evergreen was the most dominant house in the Western Forests For centuries, House Evergreen presided over vast forests, their wealth rooted in timber, hunting, and rare herbs harvested from the ancient woodlands. Their seat of power, Oakreach stood tall amid towering trees, a symbol of their dominion over the untamed wilderness. Renowned for their wisdom and stewardship of the land, the Evergreens were petty kings until the uniting of Belkar and wielded influence that extended far beyond their borders. Their motto, “From Root to Canopy, We Prosper,” embodied their connection to the land and their ambition to grow unshaken.

Though they frowned on colonization, they did found the small coastal town of Tideport. In addition Evergreen did estblish extensive trade routes, to such a degree that the evergreen yew warbow became the standard weapon for bowman companies through out the 9th and 10th centuries.

Unfortunatly in 990, a pair of twins inherited House Evergreen. The family disagreed on whome should rule, and caused a split in the house. One twin stayed in Evergreen, while the other fled to a small settlement to the northwest, taking over the town of Tideport. Infighting between the family resulted multiple raids on both Oakreach and Tideport. By 1012 The sultan of the time had to intervene, choosing the twin in Oakreach, to be the true head of house. The other twin was declared and outlaw and was swiftly killed allong with his bowman by a pirate captain, Arvan Al-Jadir, the founder of House Seasnake. Without the sultans ear, trade faltered and the house never recovered. From that point onwards the family could never agree on the path forward, and the infighting continued, though not to the point of hostilities. 150 years later the house is a shadow of its former self.

With their coffers depleted and the house’s former grandeur has faded. What remains is a fractured family, led by Nigel Evergreen still clinging to past glory, yet unable to unite. Even today rumours abound that Stokeworth Evergreen seeks rebellion and has fled with the Silverstring Bowman into the Crimson Pine Forest. House Evergreen’s name carries a mixture of awe and pity—a reminder of how even the mightiest trees can rot from within when their roots are poisoned.
