Rotted Windmill Tavern

This tavern, whose roof is made to look like an old windmill with no cloth in its blades, is one of the most popular spots in Shadowsill. It has hundreds of patrons each night, and the barkeep, a mountain man named Jereziah, knows everyone and everything in the district... For the right price.

It sells a few custom beers, particularly the Rotted Rice Ale, and Bad Barley Brew. Both of them are cheap but surprisingly good.
The inn offers rooms that can be rented nightly or weekly, and the rooms have a good reputation for being decently clean and, more importantly, secure.

Purpose / Function

The building was always an inn, despite the appearance. Jereziah had it added on when it was constructed to attract customers.

Design

The main room is about 30' wide and 50' deep, with the front of the tavern rounded to look more like a windmill from outside. The wooden walls are kept lacquered but the ceiling looks rough and untreated.
The kitchen connects to the main room and looks much the same as the main room, with the exception of a small tiled area where the oven is kept. This room is 20' wide and 25' deep.
There is also a back room that connects to the kitchen.

Entries

There are a set of double doors at the front of the tavern, usually kept open in the evenings as long as the weather is good. A back door located in the kitchen leads out to an alleyway. Small slot windows line the side of the main room at around 1 every 7', and two larger windows in a residential style flank the doors at the entrance.

Sensory & Appearance

The lighting is bright and warm, thanks to a multitude of sconces running along the side of the walls and support beams. While the patrons of the tavern generally smell rough, the cook's food mixes with it to create a strange mix of sweat and spiced meat. There is raucous behavior and loud laughter emanating from the tavern until late in the evening. On Wednesdays a lute player comes and plays for a few hours, leading to dances and singing. Thanks to the movement of the people, the amount of bodies packed into one area, and the many sconces burning at once, the building is almost always just above a comfortable temperature unless it is winter time.

Contents & Furnishings

Square tables dot the interior of the main room, with simple benches to sit on. There is a bar that lines the back wall, and behind it is a selection of beer, wine, and spirits to purchase. Simple decorations in the form of mill-based memorabilia are hung around the walls.

Alterations

The interior has been renovated once over the course of the tavern's lifetime. Mostly the renovation just repaired damage from bar brawls that had left marks on the walls after years of operation.

Architecture

It looks like a long and old cottage attached to a windmill. The exterior is made to look dingy however it is actually in quite good repair.

History

Thirty years ago, Jereziah bought a recently burned down building in the center of Shadowsill and constructed his dream tavern. Its grand opening brought in droves who were interested in the whimsical yet morose building and they were not disappointed.
