Limnis ((Limb-ness))

Limnis is located beneath the slopes of the Oroseiran Mountains and is pressed against the shores of Katav Lake and spreads along the banks of the outflowing Potami River. The location of the town provides it access to the water that trickles down from the mountains, the easily traversable Potami River, the mountain slopes, and the nearby coastal plains.   The town of Limnis is split into three separate districts. The areas directly against the banks of Katav Lake are industrial: slaughterhouses, meat treating, meat packaging plants, and the docks that receive the products. This is referred to by locals as the Ironworks, as the oppressive stench of iron and blood lies heavy on the air during working hours, and the same crimson liquid trickles out of buildings onto dirt roads. The area further from the Ironworks is a mix of workshops and markets, housing the secondary industries of leatherworking, shoemaking, and wool craft. Until rigid buildings give way to plains and sheep lies the residential and ranch-heavy district, where the people are outnumbered by the livestock.   Founded in 35 Metah by refugees from the war-ravaged Gungkou , the isolated town became idealized by many of the soldiers as a place where they could live out calm lives where the effects of the war could not reach them. Ironically, the influx of people to Limnis for its quiet nature ended up overcrowding the bounds of the established infrastructure and left those who could not afford to leave homeless and destitute. After many years and a few mild famines that eliminated many of the homeless, Limnis' population leveled out and the town began to prosper. In the 100 Metah's a young Wyrm began to terrorize the shepherds and the ranches, feasting on the trapped livestock and destroying buildings with jets of high-pressure water. The beast plagued the town for years, disappearing into the mountains whenever the government-sponsored wyrm hunters would arrive, and reemerging whenever they left. It was eventually slain, though not without destroying much of the city center in the process.   The economy of Limnis circulates around the ranches and the wandering shepherds that occupy the coastal plains and the mountain slopes. Cattle, goats, and sheep are the most commonly raised: the cattle and sheep in the plains, and the goats in the mountains. The farms power the secondary industries in the heart of the town where they process the products of the livestock and pack them into the hulls of ships traveling along the Potami river. Limnis is the main exporter of meats, cheeses, leather, and wool in the Mavanish Empire .   The inhabitants of Limnis are primarily those of Mavanish descent. However, due to the constant stream of trading ships and foreign crews, Limnis has gained a multicultural population unrivaled in the Mavanish Empire. The nature of the town has provided it with a unique religious atmosphere as churches of Lyiosism preach just down the street from the
